Vanuatu table tennis in a strong place

VANUATU standing para table tennis player Rodney Ben won the gold medal in his division in a New Caledonian tournament at the weekend.

A VASANOC official who accompanied the team to Noumea said the shy young man was very excited with his win – which is his first in international circles.

“Previously he has only won a set, but this time he did not lose a match on his way to gold,’’ he said.

“He told me after the victory that he will try really hard not to miss any of his training sessions before the Van2017 Mini Pacific Games.

“On his performance over the weekend he has gone up about 10 levels from where he was previously and this will give him lots of confidence for the future.’’

He said the Vanuatu team all performed well against the New Caledonian national team members, who are considered to be one of the stronger table tennis nations in the Pacific.

Veteran Anolyn Lulu and Liopa Santhy also won gold in the women’s doubles, and Ham Lulu and Liopa Santhy picked up silver in the mixed doubles.
