VANUATU Cricket farewelled their senior national team this morning at Bauerfield international airport as they leave to embark on their World Cricket League (WCL) Division 5 tour to South Africa.
The team, led by captain Andrew Mansale, travelled on the first leg of their WCL Div 5 journey to Sydney, where they will meet up with Coach Shane Deitz and fellow team mates Jonathon Dunn and Callum Blake before flying to South Africa on Tuesday.
All 14 players in the team have prepared well and have been looking forward to this tournament where they will be playing against eight teams representing all five International Cricket Council (ICC) regions of world cricket.
The teams they will be competing against are Germany, Italy, Ghana, Jersey, Guernsey, Cayman Islands and Qatar and they will start off the tournament in Group B where they will be going up against Jersey, Ghana and Germany in a round robin format.
The winner and runner-up of this tournament will be promoted to World Cricket League Division 4.
The team is made up of long time players and new players and the squad is as follows. Andrew Mansale (captain), Jonathon Dunn (vice-captain), Patrick Matautaava, Trevor Langa, Ronald Tari, Wolford Kalworai, Joshua Rasu, Callum Blake, Jelany Chilia, Nalin Nipiko, Jamal Vira, Kalo Shem, Williamsing Nalisa and Wesley Viraliliu.
After arriving in South Africa the team will have two weeks of preparation, training and adjusting to the South African climate before the tournament starts on the 3rd of September.
