Cash transfer program for Ambae evacuees

NEW Zealand and Oxfam Vanuatu have joined together to deliver a cash transfer program for displaced Ambae families.

Government officials said this will be one of the largest unconditional cash transfer programs delivered in the Pacific to date.

CTP SigningNZ High Commissioner Jonathan Schwass and Oxfam Director Elizabeth Faerua signed a funding agreement last week, witnessed by the Director General of the Ministry of Climate Change, Jesse Benjamin, and Director of the National Disaster Management Office, Abraham Nasak.

The cash transfer program will provide flexible financial assistance to every displaced Ambae household for up to three months.

Households will be able to prioritise spending their money on what they need most, such as food, soap, shelter materials, garden tools, and school fees.

This funding will empower and support households to recover from the shock of displacement based on their own needs, which often differ between each household.
