Police thank people for quiet Xmas-NYE

ASSISTANT Police Commissioner Jackson Noal has thanked the public for behaving responsibly over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

He said because of the community cooperation that police had requested, there were very few problems during the celebrations compared to previous years.

Mr Noal said that unfortunately there were two tragic fatal traffic accidents in Port Vila and Tanna, but otherwise the problems were minor.

“As Commander South responsible for the islands between Epi and Aneityum, I would like to thank the Vanuatu Government, government leaders, church leaders, chiefs, women leaders, youth leaders, the media, members of the expatriate community, and stakeholders such as the Port Vila Municipal Wardens,” he said.

He thanked police in the Southern Command who carried out ‘Operation Noel’ and praised the support of the Vanuatu Mobile Force and the Police Maritime Wing.

“Some of the officers carrying out the operation left their children at 6am and returned home late in the evening without even saying good night to their children as they were already asleep,’’ he said.

“I wish all families, citizens and non-citizens, in Vanuatu a prosperous New Year and I pray that God will be with us all throughout 2019.

“You must remember that Police are always friends.”
