THE International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has given more than VT 8 million to support the Vanuatu Red Cross Society’s (VRCS) response to Ambrym people affected by the earthquake in December.
“The Vanuatu Red Cross Society operation aims to assist affected communities with basic needs,” said Jacqueline De Gaillande, Chief Executive Officer.
Next week, the VRCS will use its emergency response trained volunteers to distribute non-food items and provide support for the displaced families.
A spokeswoman said a Red Cross team of 25 staff and volunteers will work in East Ambrym from January 6 – 13 to assess 14 communities.
These communities were affected by the earthquake that caused cracks in buildings with roads, water supplies and gardens also damaged.
She said the emergency funding will support 1552 people from 350 households with tarpaulins, shelter, tool and hygiene kits.
