THE condition of the roads from Smet Junction to Tagabe and on to Bauerfield Airport is always a critical section of the road network in Port Vila.
This is because it is the key link for Vanuatu’s visitors to the heart of Port Vila.
A government spokesman said that currently it badly needs to be repaired.
“While the Government is already looking into asphalting the road to standardise all roads in the capital in line with the completed Urban Road and Drainage Phase 1 (URD1), under the Port Vila Urban Development Project (PVUDP), medium term solutions are being sought by the Government,’’ he said.
“Road users can expect disruptions to traffic on this particular stretch of the road starting today – Friday January 11.
“Minister Christophe Emelee has issued instructions for the section of the road to be prioritised.
“Director General for MIPU, Harrison Toar Luen, is engaging the services of CCECC to mill and resurface the road – similar to the treatment the contractors provided for some of the roads leading to Teouma and Rentapau.
“Mr Luen requests that the public and road users in particular bear with the contractors as they fix this section of the road, and added it won’t be long operation.’’
A government spokesman said the Public Works Department and the contractor CCECC, that is doing this work as a free service for Vanuatu, has already begun work, as have the disruptions.
