DOWNER Vanuatu is about to begin painting white traffic marking lines on key parts of the Walter Lini Highway and Kumal Highway where asphalt was laid last year.
A spokesman said this will be done over the period from February 9 to 20.
“These paint lines are temporary markings placed in advance of thermoplastic markings scheduled for May this year,’’ he said.
“Work will commence in the Tropical Market to Nambatu area on Saturday, February 9.
“The work is weather dependent and will stop if the road is wet and then recommence when the road is dry.
“Drivers and pedestrians will be warned of work sites by road cones and advisory signs.
“Please keep out of the coned-off work areas.
“Traffic flows will be affected where Downer staff are working within conned off areas to clean the pavement and paint the lines.
“No major traffic detours are planned for the initial phases of this work – although traffic detours may be required in the later part of the program, in which case specific advice of the closure and detour will be provided.
“Surveyors will also be working on the roads to set out the new line markings and all road users are asked to take care when driving through the line marking work sites.
“Fresh line markings will be protected by orange cones and drivers are particularly requested to avoid driving over or between the cones on freshly painted white lines.”
